Dead Matter

With my watercolours I can’t help but want to explore sculpture with them. I have been looking into sculpture methods and how Rodin used precious materials like bronze and marble in his work. I think for these sculptures I want to them to have something within them that was living. The idea that once my sculptures were alive and moved whether the materials I use are branches that grew and moved with the wind, tree matter in the state of leaves falling in autumn or animal bones from the animal being used for mass consumption. I think using bones would be interesting in the fact that you can’t contort them they are that one distinct shape that were once supporting an animal. Bones are quite interesting because they will have a history before I even start creating sculptures from them. Bones can also relate to humanity and vulnerability and being wounded as the bone is on display through the flesh.
