Alberto Giacometti

Alberto Giacometti was an artist who played a major part in the surrealist art movement. He was a Swiss sculptor and painter using dark, harsh textures and lines to create his work. His paintings and drawings are what inspires me to create more dark Charcoal drawings depicting scenes and memories of my past. His portraits of people sitting down in rooms and hallways are quite dark and disturbing as none have and expression on their face it is as if they are ghosts waiting for something to happen. He was an abstract expressionist as you can tell that they are portraits of people but the way in which he created his marks on paper  you can feel from looking at each piece, the energy and speed which was put in lines to create his art. For me this expressive way of working has really inspired me and made me want to look at expressionism in more depth.
